An internist, depending on specialty, may perform any number of
particular duties in a given day. Physicians in general work long and
irregular hours, up to sixty hours per week. However, internists use a
variety of treatments and diagnostic techniques to treat patients with
medication or hospitalization.

typical Internal Medicine Physician in the United States is $149,485;
however, salary range varies greatly depending on specialty. For
example, cardiologists earn an average annual salary of $275,645, and
hematologists earn an average annual salary of $235,929.
The Allied Physicians salary survey revealed a difference in salary
for doctors of internal medicine by years of experience as follows:
- 1-2 Years - $154,000
- 3 or More - $176,000
- Maximum - $238,000

According to the US Department of Labor, job opportunities for
physicians should be very good, especially in rural and low-income
areas.
The BLS reports that the number of employment opportunities is expected
to grow faster than average between now and 2014. The expanding
healthcare industry is also demanding specialists in internal medicine.
