In most cases the medical transcriptionist will listen on a headset and key the transcription into a computer. Medical transcription is performed in a variety of settings including hospitals, offices, clinics, laboratories, medical libraries, or transcription offices. Medical transcriptionists may also be self-employed, working out of the home, and work on a case-by-case basis.
