Oncologists work very closely with cancer patients. They perform diagnostic tests such as blood test, MRI, PET or Body scans, X-rays, biopsy, and Endoscopy, to check for cancer. In order to treat cancer, oncologists use various therapies including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and vaccinations. Surgical therapy is often performed to attempt to remove cancerous tumors, which are then treated medically. Oncologists are responsible for explaining the cancer and the various stages to patients, as well as discussing and recommending the best source of treatment.
