Proctologists are surgeons by training, and perform a variety of tests to diagnose diseases and disorders. There are a number of conditions for which proctologists must provide surgical and medical management. Proctologists have expertise in the following areas including Anorectic conditions, Endoscopy of the colon and rectum, inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal and anal tumors and cancer. They treat a variety of conditions including Crohns disease, polyps, hemorrhoids, and colon cancer. Proctologists work closely with urologists whose work focuses on organs closely related to the colon, rectum, and anus.
