Become A Chiropractor

Chiropractors are complimentary and alternative healthcare providers who treat, diagnose, and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system, which they find has a direct effect on the nervous system and general well being. A Chiropractor is a professional who uses chiropractic techniques which focus on the relationship between the spinal chord and the nervous system, too alleviate problems caused by misalignment of the vertebrae. Chiropractors do not use drugs or surgery to treat ailments, rather they use passive treatments including spinal adjustments, as well as other extremities, and herbal or vitamin supplements.

Chiropractic Training Requirements To Obtain A Chiropractor License

Chiropractic training programs are regulated by the Council on Chiropractic Education. Programs require at least 4200 hours of classes, laboratory, and clinical experience. Course work includes courses in orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, physiotherapy, and nutrition. The last two years of the program focus intently on the education of manipulation and spinal alignment, as well as clinical and laboratory experience to train students at diagnosis.

Chiropractors must complete the Doctor of Chiropractic Program and pass a four part exam administered by the national board. Graduates must also sit for a state exam administered by their state board, which may supplement the national exam. Upon receiving their degree and successfully passing all exams, the Chiropractor may become licensed.

Generally, a Chiropractor degree program consists of a Doctor of Chiropractic program at one of the accredited chiropractic colleges. Chiropractic programs require students to complete thousands of hours combined of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience. Courses focus on manipulation and spinal alignment, while clinical experience trains students in physical and laboratory diagnosis.

Chiropractor Prerequisites

The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) sets forth prerequisites, and also sets the minimum guidelines for chiropractic colleges. The CCE requires students have a minimum of 90 semester hours in commonly required courses including psychology, biology, organic, and inorganic chemistry, and physics.
