Dental Assistant Training Schools, Continuing Education, and Jobs

Become A Dental Assistant

A dental assistant is a dental professional that assists a dentist with a variety of patient care, including clinical, office, and laboratory duties. Most dental assistants work in dentists offices, while some hold positions in government positions or physicians offices. Dental assisting for many people, provides the training and experience to gain a higher skilled and higher paying job.

Dental Assistant Training Requirements To Obtain A Dental Assistant Certification

Dental Assistant training programs must also follow the training requirements and guidelines set forth by the ADA and the Commission on Dental Accreditation. A typical dental assisting training course involves education in, radiology, anatomy, physiology, as well as clinical and administrative procedures that are required by a dental assistant. These skills help to make a dental assistant desirable not only for dentist’s offices, but also dental supply manufacturers, insurance companies, and hospital dental departments. Courses may also include preparation for practical and written exams that may be taken in order to become a registered dental assistant.

Certification standards vary according to the requirements of individual states. If required by the state, dental assistants must pass the exam administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). Graduates from an approved dental assisting program are eligible for examination as well as those with two to four years of dental assisting experience. Though not required for employment in most states, it is highly recommended or dental assistants to have a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) status, which involves further examination.
