Become A Medical Transcriptionist
Medical Transcription is the process of translating dictation of
physicians into medical reports that document patient conditions and
medical procedures. A medical transcriptionist transcribes the medical
records and types them into a computer. Medical transcriptions must also
comply with the legal standards and requirements that apply to health
records.
Medical Transcription Training and Certification Requirements
A medical transcription training program involves course work in
grammar and computer applications, as well as medical terminology and
hands-on transcription experience. Medical transcription involves a
strong knowledge of medical terms, their meaning, spelling and
pronunciation.
Graduates from a medical transcription training program are eligible
to become certified. To earn a Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT)
status, graduates must pass a national exam given by the American
Association of Medical Transcription (AAMT). Certification is optional
for medical transcriptionists, however, those with formal training and
certification, tend to land the best transcriptionist positions. To gain
certification it is best to attend a school and take specific courses
which prepare you for this exam.
