Become A Pediatrician
A Pediatrician is a doctor who focuses on the development, care, and
disease of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatricians work with
other healthcare professionals to treat and manage health of young
people, and also treat everyday ailments, maladies, and injuries common
among young people. Pediatricians may also choose to specialize due to
the complexity of bodily systems. Some areas of pediatric specialty are
cardiology, oncology, critical care, and neurology.
Pediatric Training and Certification Requirements
In order to become a Pediatrician, one must first attend medical and
receive licensure as a physician before seeking advanced training in
pediatrics. In order to train in a specialty, pediatricians must
complete an additional three year fellowship training program. All
pediatricians must rely on experience and judgment to perform a variety
of tasks and accomplish goals.
Pediatricians are board certified by the American Board of
Pediatricians (ABP). Pediatricians must take written board examination
upon completion of residency to attain board certification. If
pediatricians choose to specialize in another branch of pediatrics, they
must be board certified by the appropriate organizations.
