Become A Pharmacist
A pharmacist is a health professional with advanced education in the
science of pharmacy. Pharmacists distribute medications prescribed by
physicians and also provide patients with information about medications.
Pharmacists are knowledgeable of the dosage, interactions, and side
effects of medications. Pharmacists work in a variety of healthcare and
retail settings and perform a variety of tasks.
Pharmacist Training and Degree Requirements
A PharmD training program typically consists of a combination of
pharmacy related course work as well as clinical practice. A new
advancement in the PharmD degree program is the non-traditional program
which gives a flexible schedule that allows working professionals to
complete a PharmD program in as little as three years without ever going
on campus. Training focuses on drug therapy, clinical interventions,
management of patient care, and the developments of the pharmaceutical
industry. After coursework, students must complete a one year internship
under a licensed pharmacist.

Pharmacist Degree and Certification Programs
In order to become a Pharmacist, one must obtain a doctor of pharmacy
degree and complete required internships. Pharmacists are also subject
to examination and certification by state and national boards.

completed internships are eligible for certification. Graduates must
take and pass the state examination, the NAPLEX, and then receive
certification for state boards.
