Become A Proctologist
A proctologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of
the rectum, anus, colon, and pelvic region. Most proctologists are
trained as surgeons to treat various disorders with operations. They
work closely with Urologists, who treat similar disorders and diseases,
as well as other physicians to provide treatment.
Proctology Training Requirements
Upon completion of medical school and a required two to four year
residency in general surgery, physicians may become certified as
surgeons and begin advanced training in colon and rectal surgery. In
training, proctologists gain extensive experience in the diagnosis,
treatment, and surgical management of colon, rectal, and anal diseases.
Proctologists are also trained in instrumental inspection using a proctocscope, as well as the examination and evaluation of laboratory
results.

Proctology Training and Certification Programs
Proctologist training requires a medical school education and six
years or more of residency training to specialize in the areas of
surgery as well as proctology. Proctologists must be board certified in
both areas of surgery and proctology.
Proctologists are required to be board certified by the American
Board of Surgery (ABS) before beginning training in proctology. Upon
completion of a proctology residency, surgeons are eligible to become
board certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS).
Proctology Prerequisites
All physicians are required to attend an accredited medical school
and residency before training to become a proctologist. Medical schools
require undergraduate training in a science related field, as well as
successful completion of the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).
Various schools and colleges offer flexible course schedules that range
from day, night and weekend classes and training sessions. HealthCare-TrainingCenter.com
