Become A Psychologist
A psychologist can be a scientist or a clinical healthcare
professional who studies human behavior and mental processes.
Psychologists are typically categorized in a number of fields within the
scope of psychology including clinical psychology, medical psychology,
school psychology, and organizational psychology, to name a few.
Psychology Training Requirements
Depending on the field of psychology sought, graduate training
programs can vary greatly. While undergraduate training focuses on the
broad spectrum of psychology including history, research and methods,
biological basis of behavior, social psychology, abnormal psychology,
learning and cognition, and several other fields, graduate training
focuses on individual specific fields. Advanced psychologists may
specialize in clinical psychology, medical psychology, health
psychology, school psychology, industrial/organizational (I/O)
psychology, social psychology, child psychology, and research
psychology, all with quite different training focuses, coursework and
requirements.

Psychology Training and Certification Programs
Psychologists train at colleges and universities, and receive
advanced training in graduate schools. Psychologists may need to be
certified at the masters or doctoral level in order to practice in the
field, therefore training can take anywhere from four to twelve years.
Depending on specialty, there are a variety of certification
examination boards that provide psychologists with certification. The
American Psychological Association (APA) is the largest governing body
over psychologists, while there are as many other associations as there
are specialties.
Psychology Prerequisites
Psychologists must first complete undergraduate training at the
bachelors level in science, preferably psychology or sociology. Most
colleges and universities that provide psychology undergraduate degrees
require a high school diploma, a certain grade point average, and
coursework in college prep. Graduates must then take various qualifying
exams to begin advanced training in psychology. Entrance into graduate
school programs can be very competitive, so it is important to fulfill
prerequisites and prepare for graduate school admission properly.
Various schools and colleges offer flexible course schedules that range
from day, night and weekend classes and training sessions. HealthCare-TrainingCenter.com

education courses are also encouraged for all psychologists to remain
current with the developing field of mental health and psychology.
