Become A Radiology Technician
A Radiology Technician is an assistant to a radiologist that takes
x-rays and administers materials into patients bloodstreams in order to
diagnose disease and disorders. Radiology Technicians work directly
under Radiologists to assist in various tasks necessary to radiology.
Radiology Technicians may specialize in more advanced imaging techniques
used by radiologists such as Computerized Tomography (CT) and magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI).
Radiology Technician Training
Most Radiology Technology programs are accredited by the Joint Review
Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. There are currently
over 600 accredited programs in the United States offered at various
vocational schools, technical colleges, and universities. Training
programs may take one to four years to complete, depending on level of
degree. Training programs consist of coursework and clinical instruction
in anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, radiation
physics, radiation protection, principles of imaging, and positioning of
patients.

Radiology Technician Training and Certification Programs
Radiology Technicians have a variety of training courses available. Radiology Technicians
can also referred to as Radiology
Technologists, Radiographers, X-ray technologists or imaging
technologists. Training programs can take from one to four years, and
students may receive a certificate, associates degree, or bachelor's
degree. Additional training programs are necessary to become further
specialized in an imaging field.
Certification is not required for Radiology Technicians, however is
offered in 38 by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Graduates from an accredited radiology technology program are eligible
to take the examination and become certified as a Radiologic
Technologist. Most employers prefer to hire candidates who have received
certification.
Radiology Technician Prerequisites

Radiology Technician Continuing Education
If Radiology Technicians are certified by the American Registry of

of continued education courses every two years.
