Rheumatology Training and Certification Programs
Rheumatology training requires medical school education and three to
six years in hospital residency training in Rheumatology. A
Rheumatologist may also choose to further specialize in Pediatric
Rheumatology, which takes an addition one to two years of training.
Rheumatologists are required to be board certified by the American
Board of Internal Medicine. Upon completion of a rheumatology residency,
physicians are eligible to take the certification examination
administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

All physicians are required to attend an accredited medical school
and residency before training to become a Rheumatologist. Medical
schools require undergraduate training in a science related field, as
well as successful completion of the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).
