A Surgical Technologist assists in the surgical operations under direct supervision of a registered nurse, surgeon, or other surgical personnel. They are also referred to as operating room technicians. Surgical Technologists perform a variety of tasks before, during, and after surgical procedures to assist the surgical team.

Surgical Technologist Training

Surgical Technologists are recommended to take a two year training program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Training programs are typically offered at hospitals, technical colleges, and vocational schools. Training consists of course work and hands on experience in anatomy, medical terminology, and sterilization techniques.
